Alina Tofan & Teodora Rotaru

Searching for Cassandra

Starting from the Greek myth of Cassandra, who sees and feels everything, but whose prophecies are never heeded, even though they are true, Alina and Teodora bring her spirit into the present through recontextualization and embodiment. Cassandra foretells ecological disasters because she is connected to nature and communicates with it. In the society of overconsumption, the magical bond between humans and nature is perceived as madness.

"While filming for our project, we encountered a Saxon-origin teacher in the old school, which no longer functions, crying. He had moved to Germany over 30 years ago. His nostalgic tears for a world that no longer exists and is transforming before our eyes are also the tears of our search—a cry for how the traces of the past are disappearing without leaving behind any testimony of what was, about symbols and other ways of living in a community."
