Salve in the Wound, 2024 is a hand-tufted textile inspired by and featuring aloe cameronii, a species of aloe native to Malawi. A reflection on healing after gender-based violence, Salve in the Wound is a meditative reclamation of the body, sensuality, and the tincture of time.

"I find myself in deep gratitude that I’m able to connect with nature, the general environment around me, and other people. When you’re living in an urban environment, it’s hard to do this without intention. But here, even when you don’t actively pursue connection, it keeps finding you.”
Kyle Malanda is a Malaŵian visual artist whose hand-tufted textile works explore identity at the intersections of sexuality, indigenous spirituality, and mortality.
